With her passion for design and her drive to build meaningful connections, we’re excited to see Anica contribute to shaping the future of acoustic solutions in the Los Angeles market.
What motivates you?
I’m highly motivated by creativity, opportunities to learn new things, and finding effective solutions. Being able to work with people and build great things always feels like an accomplishment in my mind.
What goals do you have for the next six months?
I’m looking forward to meeting a lot of great people to partner up with on upcoming design projects, and growing a solid network alongside Autex Acoustics.
What do you enjoy about working in the acoustics industry?
It presents a new challenge of understanding a product from a functional perspective, as well as how to communicate acoustic qualities to designers and clients. Within the short time I have been working with acoustics, I’ve gained an understanding of the difference and importance of quality material and its process.
Where did you grow up?
My favorite complex question. Short version – I spent my childhood living in the Dominican Republic and my teen and young adult years living in Central and South Florida.
Did you go to University? If so, where and what did you study?
I went to Florida International University in Miami, where I studied architecture and received my Master of Architecture.
What does your work history look like? What industries and roles have you worked in?
My professional career post-college started at a small furniture dealership in South Florida, where I designed a plethora of projects such as commercial offices, government workspaces, healthcare lobbies, and startups. After moving to California, I worked for two other dealerships and two architecture and design firms with a focus on tenant improvement, occupancy planning, renewable electricity procurement, workspace management and design, and hospitality design. My most interesting project to date has been designing a workspace on a yacht.
What hobbies do you have?
When I’m not working, I like to thrift and search for vintage pieces-I’m an avid thrifter. It’s a great way to participate in the practice of mindful consumption while being sustainable (for the planet and the wallet). I enjoy learning about personal style as another form of expression and art, and I also paint and draw from time to time.
What are your five favorite reasons to live in Los Angeles?
How does Los Angeles set itself apart from other cities in the US?
For one, Los Angeles is booming with opportunities. People are very goal-oriented and always looking for ways to build new things and network. The weather also makes it very easy to constantly be outside and on the go. Every city within LA County has its own personality and unique features, which I love.
